Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office: Person dies from self-inflicted gunshot wound after standoff

A person died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Monday evening after a standoff with authorities, according to a news release from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

Hamilton County Sheriff's Office deputies and SWAT personnel were dispatched about 8:45 p.m. to the 8900 block of Lee Highway after a report about an armed and barricaded person experiencing what appeared to be a mental health crisis.

HCSO Hostage Negotiation Team personnel also responded to the scene and negotiated with the person in an attempt to de-escalate the situation. The incident ended with the person dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

An investigation into the victim's death is underway.
